It’s that time of year again. Every poker player out there knows exactly what’s about to happen. The World Series of Poker Main Event has recently dwindled down to just nine players. That means it’s now a waiting game until November the 8th to watch the final table broadcast live on ESPN. This is truly an event that every poker enthusiast simply can’t miss. Make sure to mark your calendar now, that way you won’t miss a single second of the live action.
This year the November Nine has one player that’s no stranger to the WSOP. Pro Max Steinberg has actually already won a gold bracelet back in 2012. This year he’s hoping to win the big and most important bracelet of all time. He’s the one player that has the experience to pull off such a victory. Don’t be surprised if he plays his heart out to win the most prized bracelet of them all. A champion knows the taste of victory and will always seek it again.
Pierre Neuville, from Belgium is now the oldest player at age 72 to ever be in the November Nine. If Neuville were to win, he’d become the oldest WSOP champion in history. The late Johnny Moss holds the current record. He was 67 in 1974 when he took home the bracelet. The feat of someone aged 72 coming to the final table can’t be understated. Each player played a grueling week of poker for a total of 70 hours. That’s something that people half the age of Neuville would be proud to accomplish.
It is worth a mention the good performance of Daniel Negreanu, who finished in 11th place. Many fans were cheering Negreanu on in hopes of him making it to the November Nine. It wasn’t to be as he became short stacked on the final day of play. His type of small ball poker lead to his chip stack being eaten way hand by hand. It all lead to him moving all-in and eventually losing. The poker pro earned $526,778 for his 11th place finish. An amount that no doubt helped lessen the sting of defeat.
Each player at the November Nine table will win at least one million dollars. The top prize will be a whopping $7,680,021 and the ever so important WSOP gold bracelet. The champion will get this along with their name being remembered as the winner of the most important event in all of poker. This for some players, is more valuable than the money. It’s what every poker pro hopeful dreams of. Every year only one will achieve this immortality in the poker world.
Who’ll win this year’s Main Event? No one knows for sure, unless they have a crystal ball. The one thing everyone can be sure of is that it’ll be exciting. The event will take place over a span of three days instead of the usual two. That means you’re going to have to stock up on extra snacks for the additional day. Don’t forget to tune in and invite some friends over. Maybe you can get a home game going during the commercial breaks. After all, you’ll be itching to play a hand or two after watching people play on television.
